The Chequamegon Bird Club is a group of people interested in learning about birds and sharing their experiences watching birds. Some members are very knowledgeable, having been birdwatching for many years, and others are just beginners. We learn from each other and from guest speakers and programs at our meetings.
The Chequamegon Bird Club was formed in Medford, Wisconsin, in 1981 by renowned ornithologist, Sam Robbins. As a result of the enthusiastic response he received as a guest speaker on a local radio program, Robbins was asked to teach a one hour class at the university center. The formal organization of the Chequamegon Bird Club was at the request of the students of that class.
Membership is open to anyone with an interest in watching and learning about birds. Members have varying levels of knowledge about bird watching, from beginners to those with years of birding, and share their experiences at the monthly meetings.
Meetings are held monthly with programs to help improve birding skills. Members who travel to birding hot-spots throughout the world share highlights of their recent travels.
Field trips are planned throughout the year to nearby locations so members can see and hear birds in their natural habitat. Watch the newsletter for dates and contact information.
A monthly newsletter, called the Chequamegon Chirps, offers articles relating to birding, local activities and book reviews in addition to meeting information.
Guests and prospective new members are welcome to attend any of our monthly meetings!
